Frequently Asked Questions.

Where are you located?

I am in Minnesota, but, as a fully telehealth practice, I am licensed and offer clinical counseling for those who live in Florida, Maine, Michigan and Minnesota. Christian Spiritual Coaching is available anywhere.

When can I get in to see you?

It all depends on my current caseload. If I have availability to see you at least twice a month, I will get you in as soon as possible. Sometimes an initial appointment is available within 2-5 business days of the initial contact. Often, these days, I have a short waiting list, meaning a few weeks.

What can I expect?

You can expect to be fully welcomed. I will do my best to help you be comfortable. Since you will be in your own home, most often when we meet, you can have your favorite beverage, wear your most comfy clothes, and be cuddled up on your couch.

How will I be treated?

I will do my best to help put you at ease, especially if it is your first time in counseling. Hopefully, our time together will become a safe space for you. You will be treated with respect. You will be heard.

How long will I have to come?

Clients start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions. I want to help you as much as I can, as soon as possible. Often, though, people have lived with pain and faulty beliefs for a long time. This doesn’t mean it will take years and years to get better; but it might take a while for you to learn new ways of thinking and acting that will replace the old ways.

How much does it cost?

Please email for a phone consult where we can discuss fees and payment options. I do offer a limited number of low income spots in my case load for those with financial need or those in full-time ministry, college or seminary. Please let me know that you might need one of those spots and we will discuss how that works.

Can you help me?

For about two and a half decades I have been helping people with a variety of different issues and needs. I am dedicated and will work hard to help you. But you have to be willing to work just as hard. This is your freedom we are talking about. It is worth fighting for!

Please DO come if you are ready to do the work of reclaiming the territory God has given you.

Please come if you are ready to make lasting changes for a greater life.

INSURANCE

to use it or not to use it?

What happens when I use insurance?

You will have a full clinical assessment leading to a diagnosis.

Some people do not wish to be ‘labeled.’ Many people simply want to work with someone to get a new perspective, learn some new skills, or explore some different strategies to try and make their lives better.  Some things like relational counseling are not covered by insurance.

How confidential are my records, really?

When you use insurance, there is someone else in the room - your insurance company.  In order to use your benefits, your therapist must disclose, with your consent, your personal information in order to verify your eligibility, pre-authorize services, and process claims to obtain payment.  This disclosure includes your official, psychiatric diagnosis, and your treatment plan.  Billing insurance companies on your behalf means that your confidential information is processed and stored with your insurance company.  Anyone who is involved in processing your claim will have access to, and can view, your records.

What are the benefits of paying out of pocket?

What you should think about when deciding whether to use your insurance are things you may not be aware of.  A clinical diagnosis may inhibit your ability to obtain life, health, disability, or long-term care insurance.

By paying out-of-pocket, the focus is on tailoring your treatment to your unique needs and not just utilizing what the insurance company has deemed billable and allowable care.
